MARIA
SORJONEN

When painting, I'm continuously exploring my inner world. The painting haunts me at the back of

my head, whether at social events or when peeling potatoes, until I'm finished with it. Only to start the process anew.

I investigate the events of my life, vague memories, feelings that my mind tries to hide from itself. I

browse through old photo albums from my relatives and other people. I want to steal their memories and make them my own, remove them from their context and reconstruct them again myself.

I'm inspired by nature, and folk tales - I think about how to interpret today's world through them. Other sources for my inspiration include magical realism in literature, and surprising, beautiful color combinations in the urban scenery.
